Social / Human Services

Human and Social Services offer services and programs that support the health, welfare, and needs of a collective group (i.e. poor, sick, elderly) or individual. Social work is a professional discipline that pursues social change at a micro/macro level regarding a particular issue or to improve quality of life and development of an individual or community. Social workers also advocate for those less advantaged.

Things to Consider

Professionals in human and social services may require advanced degrees and licensure; in particular, social workers, register nurses, psychologist, psychiatrists, and some counselors. Other positions, such as program coordinators, home health aids, and public administrators may not require advance training. However, to gain credibility in the field, many professionals elect to join professional associations, pursue advanced degrees, and obtain licensure.
