Application Timelines

Each application process can take up to ten months from the time of the application opening to receiving acceptances.  You'll want to begin planning your applications approximately six months prior to submitting your application so you are fully prepared to meet all necessary deadlines.

Timeline for Applying to Allopathic (AMCAS), Osteopathic (AACOMAS), or Texas (TMDSAS) Programs 

Applications to allopathic medical schools begin each year in May (TMDSAS) or June (AMCAS) and the process from application through receiving all admissions decisions is approximately 10 months. Applications to osteopathic schools (AACOMAS) begin each year in May or June and the process from application through receiving all admissions decisions is approximately 10 months.

The information in this timeline begins the November before you apply.

November
  • Attend an Applicant Preparation Meeting; check Office of Career Strategy Events Calendar for dates/times
January-April
May
  • Submit Dean’s Disciplinary Report Request Form (PDF) to your Residential College Dean in early May. Monitor receipt of your Dean's Report in the "Account/Academic" tab of the Yale Career Link (powered by Symplicity).
  • Dean’s Report should be received by HPAP by the end of May.  You can monitor receipt in the Yale Career Link (powered by Symplicity).
  • Submit appropriate transcript request forms (provided within the application) for official transcripts to The Office of the Registrar once spring grades have been posted. Review your official transcript for errors prior to making this request
May/June
  • Submit applications as early as possible for processing by the application services.  We recommend submission by the end of June, if possible.
June-August
  • Once your application is submitted, provide a copy of the application to the HPAP Office, prostudies@yale.edu.  HPAP will not process your order until your Dean’s Report and a copy of your submitted application are received.
  • Complete secondary applications.
  • Update HPAP and the professional schools with any changes to your contact information.
August-October
August-February

Timeline for Applying to Dental Programs 

Applications to dental schools begin each year in June (AADSAS) and the process from application through receiving all admissions decisions is approximately 7 months.

The information in this timeline begins the November before you apply.

November
  • Attend an Applicant Preparation Meeting; check Office of Career Strategy Events Calendar for dates/times
January-April
May

May/June
  • Submit applications as early as possible for processing by the application services.  We recommend submission no later than the end of June.
June-August
  • Complete secondary applications.
  • Update HPAP and the professional schools with any changes to your contact information.
August-October
August-February

Timeline for Applying to Public Health Programs 

Applications to public health programs begin each year in the fall (SOPHAS). The information in this timeline begins the January before you apply.

January-April
June-August
  • Begin drafting your personal statement
  • Finalize list of target programs, noting application deadlines (Many will be in November or December)
  • Contact Registrar for official transcripts to be sent once grades are posted.  Review your official transcript for errors prior to making this request
Sept-January
  • Submit applications as early as possible for processing by SOPHAS or individual school application services.
January
  • Have fall transcripts sent to target programs
February-April
  • Evaluate letters of acceptance and offers of financial aid
