Ophthalmology/Oculoplastics and Orthopedic Surgery Internship in Santa Monica

As an intern for both Dr. Cynthia Boxrud and Dr. Scott Powell, you will learn about ophthalmology and oculoplastic surgery under Dr. Boxrud, and orthopedic surgery under Dr. Powell. Interns will be able to observe oculoplastic, ophthalmic, and orthopedic surgeries upon request and clearance with the physicians. This internship ensures you collaborate with the physicians by spending time with each patient, taking comprehensive histories to ensure the physicians address their concerns, and learning to advocate for patients by submitting prior authorizations for prescriptions, physical therapy, and imaging. Interns learn to interpret x-rays and MRIs, observe sterile techniques in the operating room, and participate in research projects.

The pay for this position is $20 per hour. Interns are expected to work 40 hours per week, with variability depending on patient and surgical load. Paid time off is provided for medical school interviews.

This internship is based in Dr. Boxrud and Dr. Powell’s private office in Santa Monica, California. The start date for the position is expected to be the last week of May. Incoming interns will participate in an introductory “boot camp”, hosted by the outgoing interns, designed to orient them to their new position. This internship position will end in June of 2025.
