Practical Research Experience Program (TUM PREP) is TUM’s summer research program that will help Bachelor or Master students refine their research skills at one of Europe’s top-ranked technical institutions, at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). In addition to challenging research projects, the internship program offers various benefits for the students, such as an accommodation offer, orientation and framework program, buddy program, ECTS credits and a transcript within the heart of Europe.
Applications for summer 2025 will be accepted via the online application platform between October 1, 2024 and November 24, 2024. Please take note of the Student Information Event which takes place on October 23, 2024. The invitation link is published on the website.
All research projects offered in summer 2025 are published at the TUM PREP website. The program language is English. The TUM PREP program will run from July 1, 2025 to August 22, 2025.
TUM PREP projects are offered by seven TUM Schools and many different TUM subject areas in the TUM campuses in Munich, Garching and Freising. For TUM PREP 2025, students can choose between a large variety of over 75 interesting research projects, so that each student will hopefully find the perfect fit.
Also for students outside of the engineering and natural sciences fields there is a lot to choose from. They can also do research in our departments of Architecture, Management, Medicine and Health Sciences, Life Science or Governance.
- Computation, Information &Technology (CIT)
- Engineering & Design (ED)
- Natural Sciences (NAT)
- Life Sciences (LS)
- Medicine & Health Sciences (MH)
- Management (MGT)
- Social Sciences and Technology (SOT)
Via the online TUM PREP project database it is easy to browse the different projects. Students can search in one of the TUM Schools / subject areas for a suitable project described in a unique keyword, but can also enter keywords like the academic fields etc. This encourages students to also choose projects in a different field / department / School other than their study focus at the home university. Please see the guidelines for using and searching the database.
