POSITION DESCRIPTIONS:  

Volunteers for Math Tutoring with New HYTEs! (New Haven Youth Tennis & Education)
Volunteer with local non-profit New HYTEs to provide math tutoring to public school students on Yale’s campus! Choose a day that fits your schedule. Tutor students grades 2 – 5 at Yale’s Dwight Hall on Tuesdays/Thursdays 4:00 – 6:00 pm, or students grades 5 – 8 at Yale’s Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center on Mondays 4:00 – 6:00 pm. Training provided by New HYTEs at Dwight Hall – choose either training day 9/24 or 9/26. If interested, fill out this form by September 23, 2024:

Matriculate

Matriculate is a national non-profit organization across many colleges and universities that strives to help incredibly talented and high-achieving, low/moderate income high school students apply and attend fit colleges. As Advising Fellows, students will be trained to serve as one-on-one mentors who provide information, guidance, and support to those high students throughout their entire college application process. Yale Education Tutoring Initiative

Join Yale Education Tutoring Initiative (YETI)! YETIis a free resource connecting Yale student tutors with New Haven & West Haven Public middle and high school students. Students are matched with tutors based on academic needs and meet once per week over Zoom. Subjects covered include reading, math, science, history, world language, SAT test prep, college application essay prep, and English conversation for ELL students. We encourage all Yale undergraduates interested in cultivating academic and mentor relationships with New Haven youth to apply at this link.

PeerDefense.org -Youth Power Legal Fellows
Seeking Youth Power-Legal Fellows. Peer Defense develops free legal education, networks, and technical assistance so that youth leaders and their trusted adult allies can use the law for youth power and justice. Paid, remote work, six hours per week. For more information, visit https://www.peerdefense.org.    

New Haven School District Part-Time Job Opportunities 
Consider joining one of the programs at Yale that supports graduate students and teachers in our local New Haven School District.   

Volunteers for Augusta Lewis Troup 
Troup School, a small K-8 public neighborhood school located only a 15-minute walk away from Cross Campus. Training for both roles will consist of an inaugural tour of Troup, date TBD. Academic mentors will receive a session of training from either Troup’s math or reading coach depending on their focus area. Several planning/training sessions will be offered for after school enrichment volunteers to design courses collaboratively. New Haven Reads (
Job ID: 6386) is seeking tutors for the New Haven Reads Book bank. New Haven Reads provides economically and educationally underserved children and families access to free books and tutoring.  

Classroom Assistants (Job ID:31448):
 Undergraduate and graduate student Classroom Teaching Assistants support classroom teachers at East Rock Magnet and Wexler Grant K-8 Schools.  

East Rock Journalism Project (2 Positions): 
The East Rock Record Journalism Project, led by New York Times journalist Laura Pappano, works with 25 students in grades 3-8 at the East Rock Magnet School each Thursday 2:30pm-4:30pm (www.eastrockrecord.org). Two positions available.  

· Yale Journalism Teaching Assistant & Mentors (Job ID 15161)help students brainstorm, plan, report, and draft stories for the paper.   

· Journalism Graduate Student Program Coordinator (Job ID 18705) provides support in all operational areas of the program, including overseeing undergraduate mentors, communications, special event coordination, managing social media and website, etc.    

Pathways to Science & Pathways to Arts & Humanities Intern (Job ID: 14139): The Pathways Intern provides important administrative and logistical support for Yale’s on-campus outreach program for local K-12 students.    

Interns for New Haven Public School Administration (Job ID: 27231): Interns assist various departments in the New Haven Public Schools central office, the core of the NHPS school system.

Catalina: Book Talk and Signing at Possible Futures

Join Possible Futures and CT Students for a dream in a conversation with Yale alum & author Karla Cornejo-Villavincencio on her novel, Catalina. The novel follows a Harvard undergraduate’s journey through the university’s most elite spaces at the same time as she navigates an uncertain future after graduation as an undocumented student. The book was recently selected for the National Book Award long-list. Saturday, September 28 3-5pm, co-hosted by CT Students for a Dream. https://possiblefuturesbooks.com/events
