On October 24, 2024, Yale’s Office of Career Strategy (OCS) hosted a virtual event spotlighting non-profit career paths for STEM PhD students and postdocs. The event aimed to broaden the career horizons of attendees by shedding light on impactful work within mission-driven organizations. The session featured two distinguished Yale alumni, Shuangshuang Du (PhD ’24, Scientific Programs Manager at ISSCR) and Aishwarya Kuruttukulam (MS ’22, Senior Manager at Climate Haven), who shared insights into applying STEM skills in the non-profit sector.
This event highlighted OCS’s commitment to expanding career guidance for STEM students, connecting them with role models who are leveraging their research and technical expertise to drive social impact. Both alumni offered invaluable advice on harnessing non-professional skills, such as leadership and cross-functional collaboration, to navigate and succeed in the non-profit world. Their stories and interactive Q&A sessions gave attendees a practical look into how PhD skills can contribute to a meaningful career in non-profits.
