Yawkey Community Service Fellowship Application Now Open for Summer 2025

Deadline: Monday, March 3rd, 2025, 1 PM EST

Apply through the Student Grants Database

The Yawkey Community Service Fellowship provides internship funding support of a $5,000 stipend to first-year, sophomore, junior and senior Yale College students. Applicants must propose a Summer 2025 internship working for a community-based nonprofit organization headquartered in one of the New England States, particularly Massachusetts and Connecticut. Nonprofits within Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, or Maine will also be considered. The duration of the internship must be for a minimum of 8 weeks and 30 working hours minimum/week. Please read the full description provided within the Student Grants Database for additional requirements and more information.

The Fellowship is funded by the generosity of the Yawkey Foundation and the proposed internship must align with one of the Foundation’s six areas of giving: health care; human services; arts and culture; education; youth and amateur athletics; and conservation and wildlife. The Foundation carries on the charitable legacy of Tom Yawkey and Jean Yawkey by providing grants to nonprofits.

You will be able to detail up to three different proposed internships that you will be asking the committee to consider when evaluating your application. If you have multiple proposed internships, please rank your preference in your description.

Applicants for the fellowship must meet every criteria and provide all the following components by the application deadline. If there is any component missing by the deadline, including the letter of recommendation, the application will not be reviewed by the committee::

  • Project Proposal
  • Personal Statement
  • Resume
  • Letter of Recommendation from a Yale Community Member (Faculty/Staff) or former supervisor from an external organization.

Note that this is a competitive fellowship with a limited number of awards. Not everyone who applies will receive funding.
