Position Summary:
Emerson Practice Associates (EPA) affords students contemplating a gap year (or more) after graduation to pursue and gain relevant and paid clinical exposure and work experience. EPA has a strong track record of providing a supportive environment for early careerists looking to gain experience and pursue next steps within the healthcare field. EPA is a multi-specialty physician practice and part of the Emerson Health System. EPA is comprised of multiple Primary Care, Medical Subspecialty, Surgical Subspecialty, and Urgent Care practices.
Medical Assistants work very closely with patients, physicians, advanced practice practitioners, and all other team members in the office, fully immersing themselves in a clinical environment. The foundational knowledge gained as a Medical Assistant sets early careerists up for success and prepares them to be better providers and/or leaders due to their enhanced understanding of the “hands-on” and day-to-day operations of medical practices.
Job Responsibilities:
- Rooming patients, which includes tasks such as performing vitals and medication list review
- Working as a team with a physician and/or advanced practice provider
- In-office procedure assistance
- Obtaining medication/testing prior authorizations
- Triaging clinical questions to providers as appropriate
- Preparing prescription refills and orders for providers as appropriate
- Medical record uploading within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
- Answering patient phone calls
- Among many other responsibilities that will be discussed
- Responsibilities may vary by office
Experience: Strong customer service skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, adaptability
Licenses/Certifications: Emerson Practice Associates will provide all the necessary training to become a skilled and successful Medical Assistant. Although certification is not required, EPA will consider providing additional medical assistant training through our local educational affiliates.
