Targeted Math Support Volunteer Opportunity at Augusta Lewis Troup
Augusta Lewis Troup is a K-8 public neighborhood school located 15 minutes from campus. Due to systemic inequities and chronic under-resourcing, only 2% of students are on grade level in math. Yale volunteers are welcome to join math support efforts for second and third grade students. The second grade math block is from 8:45-9:45 am, and the third grade math block is from 10:15-11:15 am. They ask that volunteers commit to at least 1 hour-long tutoring session per week where they will work through targeted lessons (provided by the Troup team) with groups of between one and three students. Matriculate at Yale General Application
Matriculate is a national non-profit organization that strives to help high-achieving, low/moderate income high school students apply and attend fit colleges. As Advising Fellows, students will be trained to serve as one-on-one mentors who provide information, guidance, and support to those high students throughout their college application process. Dwight Hall Community Mental Health Fellowship 25-26
The Community Mental Health Fellowship (CMHF) is a Dwight Hall program that partners with the Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC) to address mental health advocacy throughout New Haven. Students interested in conducting service projects and/or psychiatry-related lab research are encouraged to apply, regardless of prior lab experience. Fellows are matched with a mentor within a project placement that is either research-focused (e.g., wet lab, clinical) or service-focused (e.g., community forensic services, psychiatric street outreach). There will be an information session on Mar 4, 2025 at 6pm in Dwight Hall Common Room. Dinner from House of Naan will be provided, and it will be an opportunity to meet current leaders and fellows and hear about their experiences in different placements.
PALS Tutoring in New Haven
PALS Tutoring, as a Dwight Hall affiliate, tutors K-12 students in New Haven’s public schools in subjects like math, reading, history, science, and ESL. Tutoring takes place every Saturday from 12-2 PM only a 10-minute walk from campus. Apply here.

- Mississippi Teachers Corps
The Mississippi Teacher Corps (MTC) is an alternate-route graduate program at the University of Mississippi that prepares participants to be classroom teachers (grades 7-12). Participants are placed in Mississippi public schools that are experiencing a teacher shortage. MTC provides training, support, Mississippi teacher certification, and a full scholarship for a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from the University of Mississippi. During the school year, participants receive full pay and benefits from their school district and attend graduate classes at the University of Mississippi. City of New Haven Boards & Commissions
The City of New Haven is actively recruiting community members to serve on the city’s boards and commissions. The positions are volunteer roles and typically meet once a month. These posts range from the Board of Education, the Housing Authority of New Haven, the Police Board to the Commission on Disabilities, Historic District Commission, and allow members to gain experience in city operation and offer their perspectives to shape the New Haven community. Become a EDST Capstone Research Participant
Aaron Mesa’s Project
Aaron Mesa ‘25 is writing a capstone project on how Yale students who identify as either hating math or loving math talk about math. Participants will join in a 45-minute focus group on how they talk about math. All participants must be over 18. Timing is flexible based on the participant’s schedule. Mariah Najera’s Project
Mariah Najera ‘25 is inviting Queer and FGLI Junior and Seniors to participate in one-hour interviews for a Capstone Project on relationships at Yale, including those that are platonic, romantic, or of broader social contexts. This is an opportunity to describe Yale’s role in your identity and relationship development throughout college. Lizbeth Lozano’s Project
Lizbeth Lozano ‘25 is conducting an Education Studies Capstone Project on how Yale students use and perceive AI tools like GPTs and Copilots in their programming education. She is seeking participants who are Computer Science or S&DS majors and have used AI tools in their coursework. Diego Bolanos’ Project
Diego Bolanos ‘25 is conducting an EDST Capstone Project on the experiences of low-income international students at Yale, including their application processes and their social and academic experiences at Yale. He aims to give voice to the experience of low-income international students for administrators. PASE Morgan Stanley Summer Teaching Fellows
The Morgan Stanley Summer Teaching Fellows program provides college students with hands-on experience in education and community service. Fellows are placed as trained educators in urban summer camps across New York City’s five boroughs, delivering academic and enrichment activities to youth from Kindergarten through High School. The program includes training in experiential education curriculum, opportunities to collaborate with leading community educators, and professional networking. Counselor at Camp Somerset for Girls
Camp Somerset for Girls is an overnight summer camp in Maine seeking applicants to work as Cabin Counselors for the summer of 2025. Counselors work in teams of 3-4 to take responsibility for a cabin of 12 girls throughout the summer and lead activities throughout the day in subjects such as Soccer, Theater, Photography, Ropes Courses, Culinary Arts, and many more. Residential Teaching Assistants for Yale Citizens Thinkers Writers Program
Yale’s Citizens Thinkers Writers program is seeking Yale sophomores and juniors to join their team.
Citizens Thinkers Writers is a free two-week residential summer program and year-long fellowship program at Yale to enable students from New Haven public schools to think about fundamental human questions in a college setting. Residential Teaching Assistants (RTAs) provide mentorship, lead small breakout groups, organize supplementary workshops, help students with the analytic reading and writing skills essential for success at college, and facilitate a positive learning environment and community. RTAs receive full room and board from July 11-25th plus a stipend and are paid hourly throughout the 2025-26 academic year. Learn more here and apply here. National Coalition on School Diversity Education Policy Intern
The National Coalition on School Diversity is a cross-sector network of 50+ national civil rights organizations, research centers, and state/local coalitions working to expand support for school integration. They are seeking summer Education Policy Interns to assist with multi-level legal and policy analysis on the federal, state, and local level. They will additionally provide research and writing support for NCSD’s legislative and regulatory advocacy, track and synthesize social science research, help with NCSD’s outreach and organizing efforts, and contribute to event planning and other programming. Summer@BSME (Budapest Semesters in Mathematics Education)
Budapest Semesters in Mathematics Education (BSME) welcomes current undergraduates and recent graduates interested in teaching mathematics. Summer@BSME has two academic components: courses in mathematics education and field experience at a mathematics camp for secondary students. Participants learn about Hungarian pedagogy in their course work; through field experiences, and while exploring methods learned in the courses.
