Opportunity Description:

Summer Interns will provide general support for The Yard’s summer activities season to ensure the smooth execution of summer programs, including performances, classes, education, and engagement events. Interns will work across departments and gain an overall understanding of the many facets of arts presentation. The general areas are listed below, although the experience can be customized for the specific candidate. Primary areas of focus include: Event Logistics—The summer intern will assist the Company Manager in planning and implementing season events, helping to set up residency schedules and plan logistics, setting up and breaking down venues, working with third-party vendors, and assisting the production team with staging and/or venue logistics (as needed). Artist Services—Along with the Company Manager, the summer intern will directly connect with artists before and during their stay on the island. Tasks include communicating directly with artists about their needs while on the Island; troubleshooting and helping to solve any on-island artist issues (health issues, allergies, groceries, sightseeing); confirming residency schedules and assisting with physical arrangements for artists, including ground transportation to/from rehearsals and other events; and helping to arrange artist hospitality. General Admin support – office support, helping with mailings, making copies, running errands, Island flyering/assist with marketing tasks, filing/office organizing work, and miscellaneous computer work. The Yard has a small, dynamic staff and relies on cross-departmental collaboration. All positions are expected tor outinely contribute in areas outside of their primary focus to ensure successful programs and operations. Examples include but are not limited to answering the office phone, assisting with campus projects, and helping set up for and strike performances and events. Supervision: Summer Intern will report to the Programming Director and the Company Manager.

Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years old Must have an interest in dance and the performing arts and a desire to collaborate with artists Previous work with nonprofits or arts organizations (preferred) Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently AND collaboratively with other staff Super communication skills, both verbal and digital Highly organized and adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously Ability to contribute to a respectful and productive work environment Ability to lift 50 pounds; able to climb ladders if needed Cultural competency to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences A valid driver’s license is strongly preferred SAE eligible students preferred This is an unpaid internship Housing will be provided
