Here’s What’s Happening in Ed Studies

Here’s a snapshot of what’s going on right now in the Ed Studies department.

The Reimagning Elite Higher Education Conference seeks to empower student leaders, faculty, and affiliates from across the country to take action towards reimagining universities as values-centered spaces that contribute to the common good. The event aims to propose a new academic social contract to rebuild public trust, inclusion, and opportunity in elite higher education through a series of keynotes, panels, and workshop sessions. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, with a priority deadline of October 1. The conference will take place from November 7-9 at the Yale Law School. 

Protus camps, originated in Scandinavia, seek to create a warm, joyful, and open space where teenagers can explore questions of nature, love, ethics, society freely and in community. This July 2026, the Venture Retreat Center will host the first protus-inspired camp in California. They are looking for enthusiastic and responsible volunteers to become camp counselors that lead themed days, small-group discussions, and other activities. The Yale Pedagogical Partner program sets up semester-long partnerships between undergraduates students and faculty to collaborate on the pedagogical experience of the learning environment, elevate student voices in the classroom, and center discussions about teaching and learning among faculty.  Student partners observe each class session the instructor teaches and meet weekly to reflect and share ideas on student teaching and learning. Student partners also meet periodically with each other and Poorvu staff to discuss pedagogy and gather resources to best support their partners. Email faculty.teaching@yale.edu with any questions. The Yale Institution for Social and Policy Studies (ISPS) is funding undergraduate student research under its Democratic Innovations program. This can include research funding for senior theses, term papers, summer research, or other independent student research activities. Under this program, students who have research proposals about innovative democratic governance can submit proposals to receive up to $2,000 in research funding. Application instructions and additional information can be found here. Please email any questions to Professor Josh Kalla, the Democratic Innovations Faculty Coordinator, at josh.kalla@yale.edu. Proposals will be reviewed on a rolling monthly basis subject to available funding. To be considered, proposals must be submitted by the 10th of each month.

Curious Cardinals is an education company that provides K-12 students with an online forum to discover and pursue their passions with the guidance of college mentors. They are currently searching for STEM student mentors in particular. The position offers flexible hours, $40-60 dollars an hour, and access to professional networking events, a social community, and future job opportunities. The Teacher’s College is encouraging those interested in applied linguistiscs and language teaching careers to apply to the Applied Linguistic and TESOL Program. The priority deadline is January 15, 2026, with the final deadline on April 1, 2026.

Yale University has announced a significant expansion of its Teaching Fellowship Program in collaboration with New Haven Public Schools and Southern Connecticut State University. The expansion includes a new ‘Teacher Pipeline Track’ that merges the existing New Teachers Track and the Paraprofessionals and Support Staff Track. This initiative will train and place up to 100 master’s-level teachers over four years in high-need areas like mathematics, science, and special education, addressing a district-wide shortage of certified educators. Fellows will receive full tuition coverage in exchange for a commitment to teach in New Haven Public Schools for at least three years after graduation.

The New Haven Museum seeks recent graduates with demonstrated experience in education to play an important role in the Museum teaching and assisting with programming. This includes K-12 field trips and offsite programs in schools, New Haven History Day, family and community events, public programs, and other events. Candidates will be considered for a part-time or full-time position depending on their qualifications and schedules. Read more about the position and apply here. The ACE Teaching Fellowship is a graduate teaching fellowship and formation experience at the University of Notre Dame. The program allows students to earn a tuition-free Master of Education while serving two years as a K-12 teacher and having an impact in Catholic schools. EDST lecturer Jennifer Berkshire is looking for help from a student to plan a talk on AI and the future of public education.
