Max Clayton

McDougal Career Fellow

Max Clayton

Max is a second-year Ph.D. student in the American Studies department at Yale University. He earned B.A. and M.A. degrees in religious studies. His research reconsiders the historical and legal development of territorial sovereignty in the 19th century U.S., its relation to indigenous peoples, and its articulation within a global political economy. Prior to returning to graduate school, Max held marketing and editorial positions in Chicago. He is eager to work with graduate students in the humanities who are considering non- and alternative academic career opportunities. Outside of his roles as Ph.D. student and McDougal Career Fellow in the OCS, Max enjoys gardening, biking, and playing with his dog.
