Jobs in Museums and Libraries
PhD students in the humanities and social sciences make great candidates for jobs in museums and libraries, provided they market their writing, research, education, and public speaking skills well. While curation is a time-tested career path for PhD students in art history, you do not need to have a background in art to work in these settings, nor is curation the only type of job in museums. Many PhDs have found careers in museums in education, marketing, content development, grant writing, administration, events management, and more. Many history museums also hire graduates in history, musicology, and languages to curate or manage collections.
