Paul Block Journalism Funded Internships

Yale College is pleased to offer the Paul Block Journalism Funded Internships. Students will be selected for 10-week internships at one of a number of respected American newspapers. Previously participating newspapers include the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Toledo Blade, the Sacramento Bee and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Block interns will be paired with an editor who will have responsibility for assigning the student stories, editing the work, and offering mentorship throughout the summer. Students are expected to perform at a high level, meeting rigorous standards of reporting and writing on demanding deadlines. In return, students can expect to finish the summer with many professional clips and experience at a major regional newspaper.

Thanks to the generosity of the Block Family Foundation, participants will receive a stipend to assist with their summer expenses. Customarily the stipend has been $5,000.

My experience at the Toledo Blade has had a profound impact on my life, primarily because of all the interesting, diverse people I met while on assignment. Discussing controversial or personal topics with sources made me a better listener, and it taught me the importance of being open to new opinions and worldviews.
