Professor Joseph Vinetz, MD, in the Department of Internal Medicine, Section of Infectious Diseases, is seeking learners at any level–undergraduate and above–who seeks to carry out research in a world-class research environment and is interested in saving the world from neglected tropical diseases, namely leptospirosis. The incumbent of this position must be a US citizen/permanent resident and eligible for funding through the NIH-funded program, “Administrative Supplements to Promote Diversity in Research and Development,” PA-21-345, https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-21-345.html. Duration of appointment can range from a minimum of 3 months (summer months for undergraduates) to 6 months to 1 or more years depending on academic level and interest. Based on establishing a solid foundation and track record, work may involve international travel to carry out laboratory, field (Peru) or policy-oriented research. Spanish speakers are especially encouraged to apply because of our research base in the Amazon region of Peru (Iquitos).
