Yale is taking new actions to prevent and slow the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Until further notice, all advising appointments will be held by phone or video (Zoom or Skype). Students should still continue to request appointments through Yale Career Link and select one of the Remote location options.

Students in Yale College, the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, and the postdoctoral scholars are invited to connect with the Office of Career Strategy (OCS) in the following ways.

Please note OCS offers career advice on non-academic careers. Graduate students with questions about the academic job search should connect with their advisor(s) along with their department's academic placement officer, which may be the department DGS. Postdoctoral scholars pursuing academic careers should contact their department or Dr. John Alvaro, Director of the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, at


Option 1: Online Resume and Cover Letter Review Service

  • Email your resume and/or cover letter in PDF format; please do not submit CVs.
  • Indicate at the top of your document(s) the target organization or industry.
  • Feedback will be sent to you within 5 business days. Plan ahead, do not submit for a review close to a deadline.
  • If you need a quicker review, please bring your document to drop-in hours (when classes are in session) or make an appointment with an advisor via the Yale Career Link.

Option 2: Visit OCS During Drop-in Hours (when classes are in session)

Drop-in sessions are 15 minutes and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

General Drop-Ins (55 Whitney Ave, 3rd Floor)

  • Monday-Friday, 10:00am-4:00pm, Office of Career Strategy
  • Advisors can address the following during general drop-in hours:
  1. overview of resources;
  2. interview or employer event preparation;
  3. first steps of your job search;
  4. resume or cover letter review if a quicker review is needed than available through the online review service.

Health Professions Advisory Program (HPAP) Drop-Ins (55 Whitney Ave, 3rd Floor)

  • HPAP advisors assist students interested in the health professions make thoughtful decisions about their future.
  • Regular Drop-Ins (beginning the week of January 20, 2020): Fridays 10:00am - 12:00pm and 2:00pm - 4:00pm
  • Extended Health Professions Drop-Ins during shopping period:
    • January 13-17, 2020: 10:00am - 12:00pm and 2:00pm - 4:00pm

Option 3: Schedule an Advising Appointment

Request an appointment with a career advisor through Yale Career Link, powered by Symplicity. Please do not schedule multiple appointments within a two-week period. 

If this is your first time logging into Yale Career Link, please go to the login page and click on the 'forgot password' option, using your Yale email address as your username. Click on the 'Calendar/Appointments' tab on the left side of your homepage.  From there you can search for available appointments.

Appointment Cancelation Policy: If you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment, please cancel no later than 5:00pm the prior business day. If you arrive for your appointment more than 10 minutes late, you may be asked to reschedule.

Alums: Connect with the Office of Career Strategy

Alums are invited to request a 30 minute appointment online using the Yale Career Link

  • Your username is your email address and click “forgot password” to reset your password.
  • If you have never logged in please click on “sign up.” Once you are logged in, select the “Calendar/Appointments” tab on the left side of the screen. From there you can search for available appointments and submit your request. 
  • If you are scheduling a phone appointment please indicate that in your request and the advisor will call you at the time of your appointment. If you do not leave a phone number when scheduling the appointment, please, email the advisor the best number to reach you. 

Law School Personal Statement Review for Alums:

Anne M. Richard offers a 30-60 minute complimentary session for Yale Alums to discuss one draft of their personal statement. Anne has served as dean of admissions at several top-tier law schools – University of Virginia School of Law, The George Washington University Law School, and George Mason University School of Law. Anne was a partner at a large law firm in Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia and an attorney in the United States Department of Justice. Through her 16 years of law school admissions, Anne has helped hundreds work their way through the admissions process; has worked with admissions committees; has reviewed and made admissions decisions on tens of thousands of applications; has guided prospective law students through the financial aid process. Anne earned her law degree from Yale Law School; a master’s in economics from Boston College; and a bachelor’s degree in English and economics from Boston College.
