Bethesda, MD Post-Graduate Job Expires March 18, 2021

Abrams Bison Investments is the investment manager to a $1.3 billion hedge fund in the Washington DC area seeking analysts to join our high performing team. We make concentrated long-term investments primarily in US equities. We typically invest in less than 15 companies at any one time. We have an 20 year track record and an approach that works. We look for:

– Great well protected businesses

– Run by the right managers

– At the right price

The minimum initial investment for our partners is $25 million. The majority of our capital is comprised of billionaire families, endowments, foundations and pensions.

Your primary responsibility will be to research and analyze US public companies to help make investment decisions. We’re looking for someone with a great deal of raw talent and intellectual curiosity, and a desire to learn what makes some companies great. The successful candidate should enjoy large amounts of reading and analyzing articles, analyst reports, company communication, financial documents, and many other sources of information. The analyst will also interview corporate officers, suppliers, competitors, Wall Street analysts, and other sources, as part of the research process.

Why is investing so interesting:

Investing has been called the last liberal art because every intellectual discipline can help you make better investing judgments, and every talent can be used. We are aiming to see the future (or at least a little of it). As you might expect, we use principles from economics, finance, and accounting, but we also draw on skills from a wide range of other fields, including literary criticism (close reading of texts), psychology (mental heuristics and biases), and biology (natural selection and fitness). Analysts are generalists, so you have the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of companies and industries. We’re out there on a search to find great investments / great companies.

What makes our analyst program special:

We have a unique approach to training our incoming analysts. We see your role at our company as an apprenticeship – the more you learn, the more it will benefit both you and us. Our intensive analyst training program is built to walk the analyst through 45 training modules where analysts are taught a skill, watch us implement the skill, and then apply the skill to a variety of companies or scenarios. Skills range from interpreting individual financial statement footnotes to analyzing barriers to entry to investment pattern recognition. We’ll aim to complete the formal part of your training program within 6 months, but supplemental training will continue thereafter on an ongoing basis. We think we have one of the most rigorous and in-depth training programs in our industry, and that there is always more to learn every day, no matter how long you have been on the job.

About the founder:

Gavin Abrams graduated from Harvard University in 1994 with an AB in Economics. He joined ESL Investments, Inc. as a research analyst following graduation and worked there for five years. He has been managing Abrams Bison Investments since 2000.

Please do include your cumulative GPA, as well as any breakdowns of your GPA that you feel are relevant.

Application package:

Must submit resume with SAT/ACT scores and a cover letter.
