This position is part of the Alaska Fellows Program. All fellows live together, “in community,” in their respective host site. Each host site is unique and remarkable.
Fellows receive housing, a $1000 monthly living stipend and a $500 relocation stipend. The fellowship includes facilitated and funded opening and closing retreats.

Title: Entrepreneurship Fellow
The University of Alaska Center for Economic Development (CED) leverages the resources of the university system to support economic growth in Alaska. We are guided by our mission to promote economic diversity through entrepreneurship, community building, and action-oriented strategy. Our work spans Alaska, from rural villages to urban cities. We welcome projects that provide the chance to learn more about our great state while working to advance economic opportunity for our fellow Alaskans.
Sparking and cultivating entrepreneurial talent is critical for Alaska’s economic future. Our work helps grow entrepreneurs and builds a diverse social network to drive innovation. Whether focusing on problem mapping, customer discovery, prototyping, or innovation sprints, we build custom events called “Catalyzers” to meet client and community needs. CED also manages Alaska Startups, which offers online resources for founders and shares stories of our entrepreneurial ecosystem. We ascribe to lean startup principles.
The Entrepreneurship Fellow will be immersed in CED’s entrepreneurship development curriculum, which includes elements of idea testing, problem mapping, customer discovery, prototyping, innovation sprints and more. After mastering the curriculum, the Fellow will be responsible for supporting entrepreneurship development across Alaska, including the delivery of workshops and the Upstart Alpha Startup Accelerator. The Fellow will also contribute to research and facilitation projects as needed. The Fellow will work as an active and collaborative member of the CED team.
Specific tasks for the fellow will include:
Collaborate on research projects focusing on entrepreneurship and small business development, or broader economic development topics;
Support catalyzers, the student accelerator, and workshops in curriculum delivery and event planning;
Organize startup community events, including 1 Million Cups;
Engage as a “thought partner” with the entrepreneurship team to explore new curriculum offerings;
Represent CED at events; and
Assist with content creation for CED and Alaska Startups digital marketing channels
Position Logistics: Hours for this position will primarily be Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, at CED’s main office in Anchorage. Travel throughout Alaska will be required (dependent on health and safety guidelines), as will working some evenings and weekends (schedule expectations will be adjusted accordingly). The fellow will report to Gretchen Fauske, CED’s Associate Director.
Qualifications: Qualified applicants will be intellectually curious; comfortable traveling in sometimes challenging conditions; comfortable working in diverse communities; strong writing and verbal communication skills; open to giving and seeking feedback; collaborative; able to work in both support and leadership positions; action-oriented and results driven; and passionate about building relationships and advancing Alaska’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
