Laurie Booyse, Director of Visit Sitka
Social Media Strategist Fellow
Visit Sitka is currently looking to expand and strengthen its social media presence by researching social media marketing strategies and developing innovative, platform-specific content across multiple social media services.
Visit Sitka, a program of the Chamber of Commerce and the City and Borough of Sitka, works to promote Sitka as a travel destination by highlighting the diverse visitor opportunities available. Visit Sitka currently represents almost 250 businesses within the community and uses its growing audience as a platform to share unique and compelling stories about experiences in Sitka.
Visitors are critical to the economy of Southeast Alaska, and as a region that has been severely impacted economically by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is absolutely necessary that Visit Sitka helps rebuild and revitalize the local tourism industry. In 2019 the tourism sector accounted for 11% of all of Southeast Alaska’s employment earnings and currently, the individual travel market shows promise for significant future growth. By developing a social media strategy for Visit Sitka’s online presence, Visit Sitka can promote brand awareness both domestically and internationally, connecting with new markets and sharing the highlights of Sitka as an independent travel destination.
