The Optical Transmission Research Group within Smart Network in Bell Labs advances the state of the art in high-speed and high-capacity optical communications systems and their underlying subsystems
Summer 2021 Term
Job Responsibilities & Competencies
Students will be working on theoretic, algorithmic, and hardware oriented research projects related to high-speed and high-capacity optical transmission systems and subsystems.
They will use existing software and hardware tools and extend their functionalities.
They will take part in laboratory experiments and, results permitting, will even co-author research papers with their respective mentors
Essential: Mathematical and physics background to tackle problems in optical fiber communications and software-defined cross-layer networking; experience in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Matlab.
Desired:Hands-on experience with high-speed optics and opto-electronics; experience in optical subsystem and device design and experimentation; experience in software-defined networking environments.
Particular consideration will be given to students who have an interest in Optical Communications
Overall GPA of 3.0/4.0 or above.
Must be enrolled as a full-time student.
Work Authorization: U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident preferred. Will accept students on F-1 Visa dependent upon program requirements or may consider sponsoring short-term J1 Visa PhD students dependent upon program requirements.
Education Requested: Must be pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, Physics, Optical engineering, Nanotechnology, Computer Engineering, Computer Science from an accredited college/ university.
