About: Legislative session internships occur in tandem with the 2021 legislative session. The legislative action plan relies heavily on grassroots mobilization, coordination, and recruitment. Interns will gain real life organizing experience through working with volunteers, chapter team members, and community allies to activate legislative and community strategies in preventing gun violence within Washington. Interns will work closely with the organizing staff to strengthen a foundation of community support for gun violence prevention while implementing a comprehensive plan to deliver tangible policy victories. Ideal candidates are critical thinkers who thrive in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should be invested in gun violence prevention efforts while learning about legislative processes and political organizing tactics.
If approved by your institution, this internship can count as course credit! Interns will be expected to contribute 10-12 hours per week from January 11th – April 23rd (15 weeks). Weekly hours are negotiable for high school applicants. Schedules are flexible, but may vary week to week based upon organizing events or opportunities. Interns should expect to work at least one evening shift per week (in Seattle) and two weekday shifts per month (in Olympia). Transportation to events in Olympia will be provided. Due to COVID The Alliance is currently working remotely and expects to run the legislative session remotely as well. Should things change we will inform you during the interview or during your time as a Fellow should you get hired.
