The Cat Rock Research Analyst will use a wide range of data and information to answer empirical questions on Cat Rock’s target companies and markets. Research tools will include consumer surveys, customer calls, credit card spending data, Internet traffic data, information from traditional media and social media, government statistical data, financial data of public and private companies, and discussions with industry executives and experts.
The Research Analyst will work with the Portfolio Manager or one of the two Investment Analysts on high-priority projects that the firm is pursuing. The Research Analyst should be a self-starter who is comfortable working independently in conducting research projects.
The Research Analyst will develop strong skills in conducting effective interviews and using public and private data to reach useful conclusions on research questions. Candidates with a strong interest in intelligence, investigative journalism, or research work are likely to find this role attractive.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should be comfortable working with data, but also have strong interpersonal skills that would be useful for conducting interviews and discussions with industry sources. Candidates should have a strong track-record of success academically and a proven passion for research. Prior financial experience is not required. Prior experience with Excel and data processing software is helpful but not required. Cat Rock intends to provide on-the-job training to a new hire without prior work experience. Candidates should have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, passion for excellence, numeracy, and a desire to learn.
