Connecticut is facing a solid waste and recycling crisis. Recycling markets in China and elsewhere have closed their doors to the U.S., forcing us to deal with our long-standing solid waste problems. As a result, municipal recycling costs have skyrocketed, recycling rates have declined, and our environment and health are suffering from pollution. This is exacerbated by the fact that our state is over reliant on old trash incinerators in our cities, and land fills out of state to address the volume of waste that we are putting to the curb. Our lawmakers need to pass legislation to bring our recycling system in our state into the 21stcentury, and hold corporations, not taxpayers, accountable for what is being thrown away in CT!!
CCE’s campaign staff is responsible for engaging with community members, building our grassroots network and getting supporters involved. You will build experience educating and building rapport with communities on a home-to-home basis collecting petition signatures, fundraising, and generating public comment to key elected officials, thereby getting people involved in their local government. Qualified applicants will be energetic and outgoing with a real commitment to environmental protection and environmental justice.
