We are a small New York City law firm. One of our main areas of practice is the preparation of extremely detailed, well documented petitions describing the work of artists, designers, filmmakers and performers from around the world who have retained our legal services, for submission to the US Immigration Service. Our clients are artists and professionals in the visual, performing, culinary and digital arts, journalism and entrepreneurs seeking to come to the US. For someone interested in the arts, or who loves to write, this is an exciting position.
The position involves important and demanding tasks related to our firm’s operations. The work is varied on a day-to-day basis. Much of the work involves meeting with clients, writing about our clients accomplishments, organizing binders which document their achievements, preparation of forms and documents and communicating with the clients and their colleagues in the course of the preparation of their petitions. We work in teams and help each other manage the work. Many (but not all) of the people who have worked with us in this position have gone on to law school, after seeing how the practice of law is an effective way to help others, while making use of their own skills, experience and talents. We are supportive of our employees’ long-term career goals, but, because there is a significant training period, we require that employees commit to staying with us for two full years, at a minimum. For people who are looking for an intellectually challenging position, where their work will make a difference in people’s lives, who are also interested in the arts and politics, the position will be fulfilling and exciting.
