The Imperial Capital Summer Rotational Internship Program is designed to provide current undergraduate students the opportunity to work in an investment banking environment, specifically in the sales & trading and research areas of our business. Our primary goal is to make the intern feel as if they were full time Associates with us. The program consists of a rotation through Institutional Research, Sales and Trading whereby the intern is paired with senior mentors in each group to observe these areas of the business as well as contribute deliverables over the course of the program. The program will likely span from June 6, 2022 through August 12, 2022 and will be provided in our Los Angeles and New York Office locations (please note such dates are subject to change).
Roles & Responsibilities:
The main objective of the Summer Intern Rotational Program for Imperial Capital is to support and help achieve the goals and objectives of the Institutional Research, Sales & Trading Groups by providing Associate level work product through training and the development of skills and specific modeling methodologies. Summer Interns will begin the Rotational Program with the first half of the summer session in our Institutional Research Group whereby their key responsibilities will be as follows:
Conduct research and prepare analyses of companies, industries, capital markets, historical financial statements and prospective financial information;
Assist with the preparation of financial models, valuation analysis, debt capacity and capital adequacy analyses; and
Support Associates and Analysts in the preparation of Imperial Capital published research.
The second half of the summer rotation will be spent in Institutional Sales & Trading whereby the interns key responsibilities will be as follows:
Shadow a senior sales and trading professional;
Join sales calls to learn the pitch process and best practices;
Prepare holders’ lists daily and provide to Trading Assistants;
Learn and develop language to explain the capital structure to prospective clients; and
Participate in morning sales & trading meetings.
Summer Interns will team with the respective group in their office to work on a summer long project. Your project will be to research, create, and present a comprehensive research report on a company (jointly selected by the intern team and approved by the Research Associates) to select members of Imperial Capital Sales, Trading, and Research personnel at the end of the program. Interns are expected to manage time efficiently to space the work out over the course of the internship, and as such should plan weekly or daily meetings with the group in order to stay on track. There is a lot of work to be done in order to present a thoughtful idea; this is not something that can be thrown together during the last week. Additionally, interns are expected to maintain dialogue with mentors at least weekly to update them on the progress of the project. Mentors will be available for questions and guidance throughout the process.
Interns will essentially be taking on the role of research/sales/and trading and be expected to answer questions from employees attending the presentation. Interns should be taking notes throughout the summer during the sales morning meeting daily and the occasional afternoon research presentations to get an understanding of the kinds of questions to be expected to answer.
