Business Development Intern – Summer 2021
Jane Street is a quantitative trading firm that uses innovative technology, a scientific approach and a deep understanding of markets to guide our business. We are a global liquidity provider and market maker, operating around the clock and around the globe, out of offices in New York, London, Hong Kong and Amsterdam.
The markets change rapidly, and we need to change faster still. Every day, we come to work with new problems to solve, new systems to build and new theories to test. We’re always looking for people to join us and help come up with that next great idea.
The environment is intellectual and collaborative, relaxed and playful, with a strong focus on education. You’ll learn about trading and our technology stack through in-house classes, guest lectures and on-the-job experiences. You’ll have the freedom to get involved in many different areas of the business and we’re small enough that you can quickly and clearly see the impact of your work.
About the position
The Business Development Team sits at the intersection of our trading, technology, operations, and compliance teams. Projects will involve analyzing complex documents and data sets from various sources and communicating relevant findings to different internal groups. You will also work with members of your team and others to identify bottlenecks in current processes, brainstorm solutions, and implement new business initiatives. Many projects will also require you to streamline existing procedures to facilitate continuity across Jane Street’s business areas. Through frequent, open discussions in a highly collaborative environment, you’ll have the opportunity to learn how a trading firm responds, develops, and evolves in competitive global markets.
Please note that while we’re working remotely right now, we’re hoping to host our 2021 internships back in the New York office if public health conditions allow.
We’re looking for a thoughtful, proactive rising senior/penultimate year graduate (expected graduation Dec 2021 – June 2022) who takes an analytical approach to multi-layered problems. You should be self-motivated, organized, careful, and detail-oriented. You’ll be expected to exercise good judgment as well as advanced time-management, project-management, and interpersonal skills. You are numerate, computer-literate, and proficient with Excel and VBA (or willing to learn).
If this position sounds interesting but you’re looking for a full-time opportunity please consider our Rotational Development Program (RDP), listed under our open Infrastructure positions.
