Join The Mayhew Program- Make a Difference in Young Lives!

Are you looking for an unforgettable summer experience that combines personal growth, meaningful work, and the chance to positively impact the lives of at-risk youth? Look no further!

About Us:

The Mayhew Program is not your typical summer camp. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering boys from disadvantaged backgrounds in New Hampshire. Through our unique year-round program, we provide tuition-free opportunities for these young individuals to discover their potential, build self-esteem, and grow into responsible, confident members of their communities.

At Mayhew Island, we offer a summer experience like no other. As a camp counselor, you’ll have the opportunity to gain valuable training and hands-on experience working with at-risk youth, a population that many individuals don’t often get the chance to engage with. While the position is for the summer months only, the impact you make during this time will be profound and last a lifetime.

Why Choose The Mayhew Program?

  1. Meaningful Impact: At Mayhew, you’ll have the opportunity to make a profound difference in the lives of deserving boys. By becoming a role model and mentor, you’ll help young individuals believe in themselves, work effectively with others, and discover their best potential.

  2. Training and Experience: As a camp counselor, you’ll receive training in working effectively with young people, particularly at-risk youth. This experience is invaluable for anyone interested in careers related to education, social services, or youth development.
  3. Beautiful Location: Our camp is situated on Mayhew Island, a picturesque private island on Newfound Lake in New Hampshire. This serene environment will be your backdrop as you embark on a rewarding journey of personal and professional growth.
  4. Community and Camaraderie: Join a close-knit and supportive community of counselors and staff who share your passion for making a difference. While your time with us is seasonal, the connections you form will last well beyond the summer.
  5. Positive Reinforcement: At Mayhew, we focus on creating an unrelentingly positive and supportive community for both boys and staff. We recognize and reinforce good behaviors, providing a more effective way to address any negative behaviors.

Responsibilities:

As a summer staff counselor, your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the care, welfare, safety, and security of all program participants.
  • Being a positive role model.
  • Recognizing and reinforcing the good behaviors and positive decisions of program participants and fellow staff members.
  • Addressing participants’ negative behaviors or poor choices using the tools of the Mayhew discipline system.
  • Believing that every person can grow, change, and succeed.
  • Engaging with the boys of the program in positive ways.
  • Being open to receiving feedback and implementing change.
