POSITION SUMMARY:As a data analyst intern, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills by learning from and collaborating with a talented team of business and IT professionals. This position is responsible for assisting in data analysis and discovery for critical projects as well as supporting data modeling and technical solutions for the Data and Business Analytics Department. This includes responsibilities (with supervision) of collecting, analyzing, reviewing, documenting, and communicating business needs between NMDP research, operations staff, and IT.ACCOUNTABILITIES:Defines and writes data requirements for the implementation of business solutions for projects of low to moderate complexity. Translates between technical and business languages (i.e., translate business requirements into functional specification for researchers, operations staff, developers, or outside vendors).Analyzes, documents, and manages requirement changes in accordance with standard practice to assist in identifying business priorities including documenting discussions, agreements, and existing processes.Develops analysis models (process flows, activity diagrams, usage models, etc. as assigned), in accordance with standard processes.Assists team members to formulate solution scope, objectives, requirements, and detailed design specifications data models.Conducts data profiling and analysis using a variety of tools and technologies – leverages analysis to identify themes and patterns to inform key insights.Participate in the design and development of dashboards for data visualization and presentation.Provides timely and up-to-date status of assigned tasks and identifies problem areas early.Communicates with and coordinates activities with other members of the Development team.Other duties as assigned.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of:Basic knowledge of databases and datasets including querying, data profiling, and data quality.Ability to:Work effectively with supervision, a self-starter, self-motivated team player able to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment.Demonstrate attention to detail with a quality focus.Demonstrate strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; self-directed and able to work effectively independently or within project teams.Education and/or Experience:Currently enrolled in in Business Analytics, Mathematics, Economics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or similar degree program at an accredited institution, entering junior or senior year, or recent graduate.At least one class at the undergraduate level requiring use of a programming or analytics language such as Python, R, java or similar.Previous work experience or at least one class in database or data modeling development.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (Additional qualifications that may make a person even more effective in the role, but are not required for consideration)Preference will be given to students that have class-room or work-related experience using UML and/or SQL.Training or experience in data analytics/science areas, such as time series analysis, forecasting, classification, and regression analysisFamiliar with the development life cycle including testing process and methods, variable programming fundamentals, conditional execution, data structures, compilation and debugging tools of databases.Data visualization tools – e.g. Power BI or Office 365.Equal Opportunity Employer minorities/females/veterans/individuals with disabilities/sexual orientation/gender identity
