Summary

The Electrical Engineer is involved in all technical aspects related to the conceptual engineering, design, and procurement phases of new interconnection projects, new transmission projects, and conventional facility modifications. Further the Engineer is involved in system modeling for a variety of power system related studies.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership in state-of-the-art engineering and analytical techniques.
Provide system modeling support for planning and real-time operation purposes; particularly for short circuit analysis and transient analysis using provided and self-derived models.
Using EMTP, ASPEN develop and analyze fault duty on transmission and generation assets and provide recommendation for upgrades.
Maintain and update facility rating for NYPA transmission and generation facilities. 
Provide Facility Ratings reports for all NYPA transmission and generator assets and in compliance with NERC FAC 008.
Support Agile Lab as needed through real-time simulation support.
Provide technical support to Engineering, Project Management, Planning, Operations and other NYPA Stakeholders.
Perform Breaker Overduty checks through Individual Breaker Assessments.
Learn the New York State Transmission system topology.
Review FES scope, FES report, SRIS scope and reports and FES scope and reports.
Coordinate with NYPA engineering, design, sites to provide asset information, drawings, and standards for interconnection to NYPA transmission or generation facility.
Ensure FAC 008 compliance are met in interconnection projects.
Perform power flow and transient simulations using PSSE, TARA, EMTP and ASPEN.
Develop and review equipment and material specifications and bid documents.
Review  and approve of technical submittals as needed.
Implement and comply with Configuration Management Policy.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to develop complex engineering specs and perform intricate studies.
Aware of changes and advancements in the industry, and develop industry-wide expertise.
Understand how Electric Utilities interacts with outside organizations, including other utilities and regulatory agencies, and with interconnecting developers.
Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
Strong background in substation and transmission line design, engineering and construction.
Ability to investigate what is not intuitive and to develop solutions to non-routine problems.
Familiarity and knowledge of use of ASPEN One-Liner, EMTP-RV, PSSe, TARA SKM Powertools for Windows and Visual Basic scripting within Excel.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering  with Power System Concentration from a school accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
PhD in Electrical Engineering – Power Systems, preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience.
New York State EIT, preferred.
Experience with substation and transmission project development and execution.
