The publishers at No Place Press create 2-3 books annually, working closely with artists, designers, and writers. Working collaboratively with a select group of contributors, we endeavor to support critical, challenging and noninstrumentalized perspectives on a wide range of contemporary and historical cultural subjects. For the 2023 Summer Apprenticeship at No Place Press, the student will learn the ins and outs of small-press publishing by working closely with designer Geoff Kaplan and editor Rachel Churner on the production of multiple books in various stages. They will also craft a press outreach and social media programs for specific titles and create a digital content plan for the press. The student will maintain and expand the press list and general email lists and design outreach campaigns for broadening the press’s audience. Finally, the apprentice will conduct independent research at the Beinecke on errata for a special fundraising edition to be created for the 5th anniversary of the press. For Video After Television (to be published in spring 2024), the student will assist in editing and proofreading essays by art historians, work with EAI’s archives, and help secure image rights for the book. Catherine Lord’s The Effect of Tropic Light on White Men will be at press over the summer, and the student will begin press and social media outreach for the title. Books by Rochelle Goldberg, Benjamin Buchloh and Hal Foster, and Tiffany Sia will also be in production. No Place Press is distributed by MIT Press. Since its inception in 2019, we have published such titles as A Frank O’Hara Notebook by Bill Berkson; The Glen Park Library by Pamela M. Lee; Revisions by Yvonne Rainer; and An Oblique Autobiography by Yve-Alain Bois. Our titles have been reviewed in Artforum, Art in America, Art News, The Guardian, and The Wall Street Journal to name a select few. The student will work remotely for the majority of the time, with weekly in person meetings to be held in NYC or New Haven.
