Junior Trading Assistant (Full time)
The successful candidate will support the investment team in executing this strategy in public markets, working across a range of asset classes including cash equities, equity and credit derivatives, bank debt, and bonds in both performing and distressed situations.
OnyxPoint seeks to hire individuals who are highly motivated and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors. In addition to strong analytical and quantitative skills, the successful candidate should have strong communication skills, a demonstrated ability to write effectively, and a desire to work in a team environment, often under pressure.
Primary Responsibilities
Trade Support & Execution
- Assist PM in identifying and evaluating high-convexity opportunities across equity, equity-derivatives and credit markets.
- Support the execution of trades across multiple asset classes including bonds, bank loans, equities, options, CDS, and CDX while ensuring best execution and alignment with PM directives.
- Track open orders in real time, update the PM on price moves and liquidity conditions, and maintain accurate order-management workflows.
- Allocate, book, and reconcile all executed trades promptly and accurately.
Market Monitoring & Idea Generation
- Help maintain and improve trading models, dashboards, and internal analytics tools.
- Monitor global market news, corporate actions, and thematic developments relevant to existing positions and potential investment ideas.
- Conduct regular screening and analytics using Bloomberg (and other data tools) to identify new opportunities and relative-value dislocations.
- Run screens on portfolio and watch-list names and gather trading color to inform positioning.
- Follow New Issue markets, gather book color, and flag attractive primary opportunities.
- Participate in ad-hoc research projects, back-testing exercises, and scenario analysis for new or existing strategies.
Street Relationships & Information Flow
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with sell-side traders and sales coverage to stay current on market trends, sector flows, and idea generation.
- Coordinate and prepare for analyst and strategy meetings with sell-side desks to broaden partnerships and source actionable ideas.
- Establish a visible and reliable presence with counterparts across the Street to improve information flow and execution quality.
Risk, Compliance & Reporting
- Perform weekly P&L estimates and contribute to month-end valuation processes by compiling quotes and relevant market data.
- Monitor compliance limits and ensure adherence to internal policies, mandate guidelines, and offering memorandum restrictions.
- Assist risk and operations teams by resolving trade breaks, verifying exposures, and ensuring accurate position reporting.
- Prepare market summaries, trade rationales, and performance attribution for PM review.
- Support liquidity analysis, trade-cost analysis, and best-execution documentation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with an exceptional record of academic achievement.
- Preference for six months or more of experience in investment banking or sales and trading.
- Strong modeling, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to take initiative and be accountable for running a process to conclusion.
- Strong multi-tasking skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to excel in a rigorous and fast-paced team-oriented work environment.
- Outstanding communication skills with the ability to articulate and present complex information to key internal and external stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
