Searchlight New Mexico is looking for a managing editor to oversee an ambitious and talented staff dedicated to writing impactful hard-hitting stories about New Mexico and the Southwest. The ME must have a strong sense of longform narrative storytelling and a demonstrated track record in investigative, enterprise journalism. At least 10 years’ experience required.
The ME will work closely with the executive director/editor, conceiving and overseeing story content, editing articles, supervising reporters, copy editors, and directing day-to-day editorial operations. S/he will also report and write occasional stories. Pay is competitive.
Searchlight is a dynamic, national award-winning investigative news organization that launched in January 2018. We are a nonprofit on solid financial footing, based in Santa Fe, NM and charged with covering the state and region. Our work is published by every news outlet in New Mexico, in addition to The Guardian, USA Today Network, Rolling Stone, Slate, The Trace, Indian Country Today, High Country News and others.
