Seldon Capital is an investment firm based in San Francisco. Our mission is to push forward the craft of investing by combining deep fundamental research and machine learning. Our focus is on forecasting boom and bust cycles caused by new technologies, industry change, and government policy. We seek to understand and predict the future quality of businesses which sit at the fulcrum of value creation and destruction in those cycles. We invest long and short across stocks, bonds, currencies, and commodities. The team previously worked together at Soros Fund Management and have worked separately at firms such as Lone Pine Capital, Goldman Sachs, Balyasny, and Coatue.
The right candidate will have a passion for understanding great businesses and important technological, industry, and macro cycles. Intellectual curiosity, strong quantitative skills, and an ability to convert ideas into models and metrics that can be tracked with data are required. Interest in forecasting competitions (eg, Good Judgment Project, Metaculus etc) and machine learning competitions (eg, Kaggle) are a plus.
Job Description:
We are seeking a Trader to handle execution for the firm across stocks, bonds, currencies, interest rates, commodities, and credit and contribute to investment research.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for:
- Forecast imbalances in supply/demand and inflections in fundamentals across stocks, bonds, currencies, and commodities
- Discover new sources of data and model fundamental concepts through feature engineering
- Apply statistical and machine learning techniques to make predictions
- Tracking fundamental information around company specific and macro events
- Managing all aspects of the order flow
- Liaising with key counterparts to ensure flawless execution
- Assisting with portfolio optimization
- Implementing process and control improvements around trade generation and execution
- Work with the investment team to manage commission budgets with counterparties
Required Qualifications & Skillset:
Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline from a top-tier university.
Deep technical understanding and interest in the macro-economic environment.
Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail and risk awareness.
A proven track record of process improvement in previous roles.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Experience with standard market data and trading platforms (Bloomberg, FactSet, etc.)
Familiarity with python scripting for the purpose of process automation a plus.
