St. Andrew’s seeks a full-time math teacher for the 2021-22 academic year. St. Andrew’s was founded almost a century ago with an unprecedented approach to financial aid and has a long-standing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion work; this commitment is not an addendum, but deeply woven into the fabric of our school culture.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Typical job responsibilities of a St. Andrew’s teacher include the following:
· Three or four class sections;
· Two seasons of athletic coaching or two seasons of a major, non-athletic extracurricular program;
· Dormitory duty once or twice a week;
· Weekend duty once every three weekends;
· Participation in school committees and activities.
Job Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative partner who will bring previous teaching experience and foster a love of mathematics in students. Our school has a longstanding commitment to financial aid and diversity in all its forms, and candidates should demonstrate an ongoing commitment to continuing to develop their own cultural competence, and a deep dedication to meeting the needs of diverse student learners.
A typical teaching load consists of three to four sections of 12-15 students with one to two preps. The opportunity exists to teach all levels of mathematics from algebra through multivariable calculus. We teach math in a way that helps students to appreciate the process of mathematical discovery through a mix of collaboration and traditional teaching approaches, and the use of technological tools such as Desmos, GeoGebra and R statistical computing software. The ability to teach computer science is a plus but not a prerequisite.
As a fully residential school community, we seek candidates who, in addition to the language and proficiencies described above, have a passion for teaching and a deep appreciation and respect for the privilege and honor of teaching and living with adolescents. Please see “The Profession of Boarding School Teaching at St. Andrew’s” for a more detailed description of our approach to teaching.
Conditions of Hire:
Applicant must complete a criminal background check, inclusive of fingerprinting. In addition, applicant must complete satisfactory reference checks, confirmation of compliance with federal and state employment laws, and any other required condition of employment.
