Just as a traditional library lends books, the Tool Library lends tools—for free—for building, plumbing, gardening, bikes, cars, and more. A project of the Millvale Community Library, the Tool Library is open to library card holders in the Pittsburgh area and throughout Allegheny County. Our goal is to promote self-sufficiency, reduce waste, and empower individuals and community groups.
The Tool Library seeks an intern for outreach and communications for January-April, 2022. (Start and end dates are flexible.) Specific tasks will include: generating press coverage, writing and laying out a member newsletter, organizing and promoting skills workshops, managing social media, and outreach to working class communities. Most of the work can be done remotely with supervision.
We are not looking for a tool guru—you don’t even have to be handy!—though any intern will certainly have the chance to learn more about tools. The Millvale library is a tight community of staff, volunteers, and patrons. We are committed to entrusting an intern with real responsibility and to guaranteeing a learning experience.
