Summer Investment Banking Intern
Westbury is a FINRA-registered investment banking broker-dealer dedicated to providing exceptional financial and strategic advisory services for entrepreneurial middle market clients. Headquartered in Westport, Connecticut, Westbury’s bankers serve clients across the country and internationally. Westbury’s finance professionals bring transactional and real-world operations experience to engagements in a broad range of industries, including advanced manufacturing, aerospace/defense, consumer/retail, government services, healthcare/pharma, and technology/media/telecom (TMT), among others. Drawing on this experience, teams assist clients with mergers, acquisitions, raising equity capital and strategic counsel. Transaction sizes range from $20 million to $300+ million. Areas of Responsibility
The Intern will focus on Transaction Support, Client Prospecting, and Firm Marketing.
1. Transaction Support
The Intern will assist Westbury project teams on client investment banking engagements.
o Discounted cash flow
o Publicly traded comparable companies
o Comparable transactions
§ Build detailed financial models to evaluate performance under various operating scenarios and different capital structures
o Client pro forma analyses
o Client profitability analysis (by product, customer, geography, etc.)
o Clients financial forecasts
o Leveraged buyout
§ Conduct fundamental industry research
§ Analyze industry growth and trends,
§ Competitor analysis
Client Marketing Materials
§ Contribute to the development of information memoranda, management presentations, teasers, and other marketing materials.
§ Develop marketing materials for topics such as company positioning, financing alternatives, and M&A/Strategic alternatives
§ Write confidential information memoranda,
§ Developing targets lists of buyers, investors, and target companies for acquisition.
§ Track project activity
§ Set up and maintain virtual data rooms
2. Client Prospecting
§ Research target industries
§ Identify prospective client companies and executives
§ Develop marketing pitches
§ Contact prospective clients
§ Generate ideas and analytical materials in support of prospect meetings
§ Prepare presentation materials for use in prospect meetings, covering topics such as strategic alternatives, capital markets activity and general corporate finance
3. Firm Marketing
Westbury has four linked components: a customer relationship management system (CRM), the firm’s website, an email marketing system (Constant Contact and a PR effort. To the extent that the Intern has sufficient capacity, they may assist Westbury in implementing, configuring, managing and integrating these systems.
Review website for potential improvements
§ Benchmark vs. other boutique i-banks
§ Compile inventory of fixes and enhancements
§ Interview and assess independent contractors on platforms such as Upwork, Guru, Freelancer, etc.
§ Develop Constant Contact templates and processes
§ Brainstorm potential marketing strategies and tactics, including cost & ROI
§ Quantitatively and financially-oriented, possessing the ability to succinctly express ideas
§ Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving ability
§ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
§ Demonstrated knowledge of financial modeling, valuation, and execution
§ Strong quantitative skills, including financial modeling and financial statement analysis
§ Excellent organization, communication and research skills
§ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint and Word)
§ Strong working knowledge of Capital IQ
§ Facility with configuring and using Web-based software, in particular Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
§ Strong team player with a positive can-do attitude and desire to be part of a close-knit group operating in an intensive and challenging work environment
§ High level of personal initiative
§ Determination to succeed, a commitment to hard work and a passion for creative thinking.
Experience and Background
§ Exceptional academic performance from a challenging academic institution
§ At least one year of full-time experience in investment banking, finance or a related industry
§ Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer
