Telecommuting Policy: A plan has been created to officially rollout a hybrid work-from-home option that will take effect when it is safe to move forward to return to the workplace. This position will participate in this new policy. This internship is full-time during the summer (30 – 40 hours per week) with the option to work part-time during the school year (8+ hours/week). The ideal candidate will be a Sophomore or abovepursuing a degree in Environment, Biology, Land Use, or similar.Open to applicants in the Minneapolis, MN area.Only local candidates will be considered. Recent graduates are not eligible for an internship. The intern will travel on occasion 25% of the time to solar gardens in the area. The company will reimburse for mileage based on the company rate. Position Summary This internship is an opportunity to experience and learn the utility industry from the ground up at Xcel Energy. This intern role will perform the range of activities associated with the planning, siting and acquisition of permits and land rights for the construction, operation and maintenance of electric transmission and renewable generation (wind and solar) facilities for Xcel Energy. The intern will handle land and environmental research, conduct pollinator habitat assessments, ROW document and permit drafting. Essential Responsibilities Review transmission line projects for potential environmental impacts. Coordinate approvals with local govts to conduct soil testing near substations. Perform pollinator habitat assessments at solar garden facilities. Prepare and submit DNR Water & Land Crossing applications. Review building permit requests forms for local government applicability. Minimum Requirements Able to work part-time and on-site during the academic school year Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate institution, pursuing a degree inEnvironment, Biology, Land Use, or similar Prefer a sophomore orjuniorundergraduate student. No graduate students. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
