A Research Associate position is available at the Yale University School of Medicine within Frederick Altice’s group, starting in Fall/Winter 2021. We are primarily interested in developing and applying machine learning, statistical approaches, and wearables to understand outcomes associated with substance use.
The research program at the Yale University School of Medicine has strong expertise and track records in substance use research, development of cutting-edge machine learning and other health informatics approaches to conducting population-based substance use research, using social media and mHealth data. The Research Associate will join a vibrant team of substance use researchers, informaticians, statisticians, psychologists and clinicians and will receive close mentorship for developing an independent research career as well as team science.
We are recruiting for a research study focused on understanding how a range of health outcomes shift as individual substance use patterns change. The goal of this research project is to use ensemble learning, multimodal data, wearables, and natural language processing to analyze outcomes related to harm reduction.
Qualifications: Applicants must have trained with a strong emphasis on machine learning, text mining using Python and/or R programming. Preference will be given to individuals with expertise in big data/modeling and those with an interest in healthcare. Applicant will also provide project coordination to multidisciplinary technical teams according to timelines and ensure high quality products meet deadlines. The position is open to graduating BA/BS and MA/MS students in computer science, bioinformatics, health informatics, statistics, engineering or a related discipline. This position is ideal for someone recently graduated from a BA/MA program. Applicants must be able to legally work in the US.
Appointments are initially for one year. The positions may be extended for one additional year at the end of the first year based on performance and funding availability. Salary is commensurate with research experience and education. The duties of this position can be carried out remotely if this meets business needs.
