An internship at Edwards gives you the opportunity to participate in Summer Program, which provides exposure to our leadership team, community activities, and social events with other interns and recent new graduates. Key Responsibilities
Edwards Lifesciences is looking for an Application Software Developer to fulfill an internship role within its Research and Development Software Team in the Critical Care Business Unit. The primary responsibilities of this Application Software Developer role are to:
- Support the development of GUI software features and functions for existing bio-medical devices.
- Participate in the design and review of the user interface of a GUI application used in Next-Generation bio-medical monitoring systems.
- Contribute to the development and review of software requirements and design elements, translation of software requirements into structured software design, and implementation of GUI applications and test tools.
- Participate in code reviews and software verification testing cycles.
- Participate in setting up continuous development and automation processes and scripts.
- Develop and improve automated unit and regression tests for medical device systems.
What you will need (Required):
- Current enrollment as a student at an accredited university for the duration of the Internship project with a graduation date of December 2024 or later.
- Pursuing bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent field of study.
- Ability to work full-time for the duration of the Internship (May/June 2024 – Aug 2024)
- Good scholastic standing (3.0+ cumulative GPA or equivalent on a 4.0 Scale)
- Must not require company sponsorship for an employment-based visa now or in the future.
- 1+ years of experience in software development with one or more compiled languages utilizing the Microsoft Windows operating system.
- 1+ years of experience with software integration and debugging.
What else we look for (Preferred):
- Sophomore or Junior standing, pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent field of study.
- Interest in pursuing healthcare and/or medical device industry experience
- Candidate should feel comfortable in fast-paced, dynamic settings.
- Must have a strong work ethic, excellent organization skills, demonstrated learning agility, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments based on input from manager.
- Knowledge, understanding and application of OO/OOD software development methodology.
- Knowledge and understanding of software unit testing, preferably including test frameworks such as the Microsoft unit testing framework.
- Able and willing to contribute to code reviews and documentation of software design and implementation to meet quality system standards.
- Motivated self-starter who is comfortable working in a team, partnering, and is proactive and creative in achieving goals with limited supervision.
- Experience developing software in Microsoft Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code
- Experience in OO design concepts/patterns and tools such as UML, sequence diagrams and static analysis.
- Experience developing applications with a user interface framework, in particular Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF)
- Solid documentation and communication skills
- Knowledge, understanding and practice developing multi-threaded / multi-processor software is a big plus.
- Experience with network communication protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, MQTT) and/or messaging frameworks (gRPC) is a plus.
- Any experience with a cloud-based DevOps environment such as Azure DevOps, AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Experience in scripting and automation, in particular using python and/or powershell.

For California, the base pay range for this position is $29 – $35 an hour. The pay for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience).
