PhDs & Postdocs

Where will your PhD take you?

Your PhD has equipped you not only with specialized expertise in your discipline, but also with a strong transferable skill-set that may be applied to a range of careers. At Yale, there are many ways to learn about the diverse paths that PhDs and others have taken outside of the academy, and to explore opportunities open to PhDs.

Take advantage of OCS resources to explore career options, develop professional skills and experiences and conduct a rewarding  job search beyond the academy.  Be sure to review our events calendar frequently for upcoming workshops, alumni panels and employer events and make an appointment with an advisor for personalized advice on your career development journey.

On the academic job market?

OCS provides support  for students and postdocs interested in non-academic careers.  For help with your academic job search, consider these resources.

Resources for Student Organizations

The Office of Career Strategy allocates part of its limited funds to support groups organizing activities related to non-academic career exploration and development.  Graduate groups currently registered with the McDougal Graduate Student Life office may request modest funding from this office.  In addition, postdoctoral groups, such as YPA, may apply for funding.  For more information and to apply, visit this form.
