Oxford Academia is seeking applicants for Faculty and Administrative positions for
our summer program in New Haven, CT on the campus of Yale University, July 1-13
and July 15-27. Training occurs on site from June 27-30 for teaching faculty and
June 23-30 for Administrative staff.
Students take two courses – a Major and a Minor – which are taught without tests, grades, or quizzes, but rather through discussion, debate, and hands on activities. Seminars blend classroom instruction with site visits, field excursions, and meetings with local experts and organizations to provide an academic experience that does
not rely on tests, grades, or one-way lectures. Faculty are provided with a class budget for supplies and excursions as well as a budget to bring in guest lecturers.
Each faculty typically teaches 1 major section and 1 minor section of the same subject matter, though some seminars may be offered as ONLY a Major OR a Minor, allowing flexibility for those with busy schedules. The major section meets six days a week (Monday-Saturday) for three hours from 9am-12pm. The minor section meets three times a week for two hours from 2-4pm, and does not require the preparation of different material from the Major. Major classes meet for 30 total hours over the course of the entire program. Minor classes meet for 10 hours.
This opportunity is ideal for graduate students or academics who will be in New Haven during the summer and who are excited about engaging with curious, motivated high school students in the classroom during the summer months.
Oxford Academia pays a stipend, commensurate with education and experience, as
well as all travel and lodging (as needed) during your contracted dates. In addition
to teaching their seminars, Faculty are expected to lead two activities per week, plus
one weekend event.
