American High’s Development Internship consists solely of reading scripts and writing coverage in order to help our Creative team determine which high-school comedy scripts in our database are worth producing over the next couple of years. You are directly helping us select the next slate of movies to produce!
If you’re unfamiliar with coverage, it refers to the act of writing a critical assessment of each script that you read based on a template we provide in a Google Form. Questions that are consistently asked about each script include, but are not limited to:
Would you pass, consider, or recommend this movie for production?
What would you give it from a 1-10 overall?
How would you rate its characters, structure, comedy, and dialogue from a 1-10?
Provide comments to explain exactly why you feel the way you do toward the script.
Provide a logline and synopsis for each script.
During which season(s) does the script take place?
During what length of time does the script occur?
What percentage of the script takes place in a high school?
Are the characters of high-school age?
The internship is entirely remote and should be taken for school credit. The number of work hours required is determined by your school’s respective internship credit rules.
Yale College recognizes that experiential learning is a valued and integral part of the Yale College academic experience, enabling students to transition from the classroom into their post-graduate professional careers. This experience is acquired through a variety of means, including but not limited to internships, volunteer opportunities, independent projects, and research opportunities. Some employers require students to demonstrate that the work or internship experience is related to their academic major, and some students want to demonstrate to future employers that they have done field work. PRAC 471/472 are graded pass/fail courses that allow a student to receive credit for the application of summer experience toward this structured curricular engagement.
