Yale Society of Physics Students

Student Groups & Organizations

The Yale Society of Physics Students seeks to promote mentorship, fellowship, and an esprit de corps within the physics communities at Yale. We do this by hosting study sessions, information panels, prize lectures, and other academic and social events — all aimed at connecting physics students, faculty, and the Department at large. We also support education, research, and outreach endeavors in physics, hosting a number of resources and student-oriented guides for members of SPS. We communicate with the Physics DUS and the Physics Department Chair’s office to ensure undergraduate input and involvement in administrative decisions. Yale SPS has been a registered chapter of the national Society of Physics Students, and an American Institute of Physics (AIP) member organization since 1998, as well as (soon-to-be) a chapter of the Sigma Pi Sigma honor society since 2020. Through our membership, we link Yale students with other SPS chapters and the national organization, so that they may benefit from a larger community and get access to scholarships, conferences, and other initiatives.
