Valerie Steinberg Productions is seeking interns for summer 2024. VSP is an LA-based film & TV development and production company, dedicated to producing genre-smashing, risk-taking, boundary-pushing films for an international audience.
The duties for this position will include script coverage, talent research, literary scouting, as well as pre-production and production support.
By default, this is a creative development position (focusing on critical analysis of literary material and films), and depending on interest and need, there is also the opportunity to focus on film financing, casting, international co-production, sales/distribution, film festivals, business development, and/or intellectual property.
This film producing apprenticeship is an educational opportunity to gain industry knowledge while contributing to the efforts of driving forward a development slate.
We are seeking voracious readers with a deep love of cinema, strong opinions, excellent taste, and a sharp understanding of story and character in novels and screenplays. The ideal candidate would happily read two scripts before lunchtime, brings their own ideas to the table, and has a passion for discovering new voices. Film production experience is beneficial but not required.
The company is based in Los Angeles, and interns will be expected to be in Los Angeles for 8 weeks over the summer. Given the nature of the independent film industry with shifting production schedules often until quite last minute, the exact dates are TBD, but estimated dates are June 15th-August 15th (possibly as early as June 1st, and possibly to conclude earlier) – exact dates to be set by late spring. Either way, work will start remotely no later than June 1st.
Please note: This position is eligible for Yale’s Arts Apprenticeship program, which is part of the Summer Experience Award. Eligible students are those who have received any amount of financial aid this semester, with at least one term of Yale remaining. If you are not eligible for the SEA, we would still love to see your application – and please note whether or not you are eligible for this opportunity. Additional sources of Yale funding may also be available, to be advised upon once a position is offered.
