Summer Housing Resources – U.S. and International

The following tips and list of housing resources by City are compiled annually based on referrals from Yale students and alums.

When starting your housing search, check with classmates and friends who will be in the same area as you may be able to share an apartment or sublet. Many colleges and universities open up residence halls for short-term, affordable rentals to students during the summer; check college websites or contact institutions about housing. College newspapers may also list information on student-friendly apartments or sublets.

Prepare a budget to determine how much you can afford to spend on housing. If you choose to share space, talk about financial limitations to assure you are in agreement. Before signing any rental or sublet agreements, be sure to read contracts and be clear about the terms. If you are looking outside university housing, consider arriving before the start of your experience to allow you time to physically see properties.
